A Memphis woman was thrown into a fight-or-flight confrontation early Wednesday morning, and the tale is as old as time.
According to reports, the ex-boyfriend had already shown up at her apartment earlier in the day. The now-former couple broke up earlier when the female said she discovered he was unfaithful to her.
She told local media that “I broke up with him about a week ago because he was cheating, and he was mad.”
Female intended victim decided to fight back against suspect
The initial incident ended after the suspect banged on the door and fired multiple rounds into the air. That certainly was alarming enough, and the intended victim had the good sense to be prepared if he should come back.
The unidentified woman told authorities that he returned a while later and vandalized her car. Much more seriously, he allegedly fired shots into the apartment where he ex-girlfriend, her sister, and her 10-year-old child were.
When at least two rounds struck her living room wall and the residence’s exterior, she had had enough and returned fire at her alleged attacker. At first, she did not know that she had struck him, but responding officers discovered that the now-wounded suspect managed to drive himself to his sister’s house.
Three women are safe today because of a ready firearm
He was placed in an ambulance there and transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
Investigators located 9mm and .40-caliber shell casings at the crime scene, and another .40-caliber casing in the suspect’s car. Authorities questioned the woman who valiantly defended herself and her loved ones for several hours and then released her without charges.
Unfortunately, human nature has not changed much over several thousand years of civilization. Sometimes, individuals cannot handle rejection properly, and at that point, they become a threat that must be reckoned with.
A ready weapon and the will to use it can certainly turn the tide in the intended victim’s favor.
