Barber shops are a hub of activity in many communities, and often they are filled with old men waiting on a haircut and shave. What they are not supposed to be in a setting for threatening the occupants with a firearm.
In South Nashville early Tuesday, 2:25 a.m. to be exact, a man felt the need to get a haircut. It was obviously after hours, but there were people inside apparently socializing when police report that he strolled in asking for service.
He was denied and could have simply taken the opportunity to leave a negative review on social media. Instead, he pulled up his shirt and flashed a handgun at them. Bad move.
A person who flashes a weapon must be prepared for a response
An employee of the barber shop was armed and responded quickly to the threat. Multiple shots were reportedly exchanged, and the suspect was struck in the arm.
Police said the man dropped his gun after being hit and ran away. Sure enough, he soon showed up at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and deputies listened to him claim that he did not even have a weapon in the violent store encounter.

That story didn’t last long, and he admitted that he was indeed armed when he was shot. The Metro Nashville Police Department told reporters that no charges were initially filed against either man, and the investigation continues.
Obviously, there are new details that may be revealed in the District Attorney’s probe, but if the narrative of the encounter stays the same, only one should have any legal difficulties ahead.
Whether at home or a place of business, it is an unfortunate reality that violence may strike anywhere and anytime. It’s a good bet that the employee was aware of risks being out at that hour, and he use that knowledge to be properly prepared.
