To be fair, no one expected California’s entrenched gun rights suppression apparatus to throw in the towel and admit they were wrong. They were always going to fight the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) attempt to ensure equal rights in every state tooth and nail.
So it’s no surprise that Golden State lawmakers protested the federal lawsuit on the state’s Glock ban.
AG doubled down on arbitrary ban on popular handguns
The new law took effect on Wednesday, and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon on the same day fulfilled her promise to strike back against the latest state infringement on Second Amendment rights.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) wasted no time rushing to the defense of the indefensible. In the process, he butchered the definition of an actual machine gun and trampled on the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent.

Bonta claimed that “even after Bruen, the Ninth Circuit has reaffirmed prior precedent that machine guns are dangerous and unusual weapons that fall outside the scope of the Second Amendment because machine guns can fire more than 1,000 rounds per minute, allowing a shooter to kill dozens of people within a matter of seconds.”
Someone has seen too many Rambo movies. Bonta went on to describe his state’s gun control regime as “a blueprint for reducing gun violence nationwide.”
What the AG failed to acknowledge is that violent criminals already violate existing federal law against converting Glocks and similar handguns to fully automatic capabilities.
One of the authors of the ban, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D), accused the federal government of enabling violence in communities.
“California won’t back down in the face of threats from Donald Trump and the NRA,” Gabriel said in a statement. “As a parent and lawmaker, I refuse to stand idly by while our schools and communities are being threatened by illegal gun violence.”
Meanwhile, not so much as a word about cracking down on criminals who perpetrate this violence.
