Gun Owners of America (GOA) took a much-deserved victory lap after the recent and significant court ruling that struck down the statutory National Firearms Act (NFA) registration of certain Second Amendment-related items.
But the group knows all too well that entrenched Department of Justice (DOJ) bureaucrats can appeal the federal judge’s landmark decision. With that window shrinking, GOA wants good citizens to flood the administration with calls opposing such actions.
The gun rights association issued a national alert urging the sporting community to rise and make its voice unmistakable.

“GOA members can help to ensure that doesn’t happen by calling the White House and urging President Trump to order [the] DOJ not to appeal,” the group urged. “If we generate tens of thousands of calls into the White House, that will only strengthen the President’s hand so that he can rein in career attorneys at the DOJ.”
The decades-old tax upon which the registration requirement for suppressors and other gun-related items falling under the NFA’s purview is based is history. Only the registration remains.
To Second Amendment supporters, this de facto national registry should be added to the hated tax’s trash heap.
Court victory should expand to cover all law-abiding Americans
To be clear, this edition of the DOJ is making strides and is an undeniable improvement over the previous regime. GOA and others want to ensure that progress continues and that an appeal does not blindside the gun rights community.
“This is an opportunity to deliver one of the most meaningful Second Amendment victories in decades,” the national alert declared. “Since this Department of Justice wants to be remembered as the ‘most pro-Second Amendment’ DOJ in history, let’s make them walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.”
Accepting the federal judge’s decision would go far in demonstrating that the administration is indeed “walking the walk.” This statutory relic deserves to be swept aside.
