A seemingly nondescript Texas congressional race is drawing attention from anti-Second Amendment forces as it pits polar extremes on the issue against each other.
Thirty-year-old Brandon Herrera (R) is the target of gun grabbers’ ire due to his social media presence that attracts millions of viewers. He is a firearm enthusiast who produces captivating videos for the sporting public about everything from target shooting to the latest firearm tech.
Opposing him at every level for the 23rd District congressional seat is Katy Padilla Stout (D).
Candidate: young adults do not have the maturity to own certain weapons
How far away from protecting the right to keep and bear arms is Stout?
She is in a video posted by an anti-gun group agreeing that young adult brains are not high functioning enough to possess the most popular sporting rifles in the U.S.
“We know the frontal cortex isn’t done developing, and so I do think that makes common sense to be able to do that,” the candidate declared.
Could the minimum age for purchasing a semi-automatic firearm jump to 25?
These same young adults can and do sacrifice their lives in service to their country; they marry and start families, vote, and otherwise function as legitimate and fully vested members of society.
But for Stout and her ilk, they remain a work in progress and should be denied fundamental rights.
Herra implied that Stout was “apparently suggesting” that young adults should not be able to acquire firearms until they are 25. She did not explicitly endorse this outrageous position, but it aligns with her statement about frontal cortex development.
Of course, anti-gun outfit Giffords is not on the fence in its position on the House race.
Executive Director Emma Brown called the 23rd District “a really important race with major national implications for this issue. Brandon Herrera is one of the most extreme, anti-gun-violence-prevention candidates anywhere on the map.”
As competitive fall races heat up, the stark contrast between these candidates for the U.S. House should not be lost on the shooting public. Elections have consequences, and sending another rabid anti-gunner to Washington is not in the community’s best interests.
