Another day, another Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit against a government entity that not only does not respect the Second Amendment but is openly hostile to the right to keep and bear arms.
Last week, the DOJ fired its latest shot across the bow, and this time it was the Minnesota gun control apparatus that was the target. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are also named as defendants.
Officials concocted one of the nation’s most convoluted permit-to-purchase schemes that regularly makes law-abiding citizens wait for weeks or even longer to legally acquire a firearm. Between the state’s mandatory waiting periods and permit processing that is laughably slow, Minnesota residents are regularly discouraged from exercising a constitutional right.
AAG blasted unnecessary waiting periods for Minnesota residents
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon is getting familiar with announcing legal action against violators of fundamental rights.
Dhillon posted on X that “a right delayed is a right denied. The Supreme Court held that the home is where the need for defense of self, family, and property is most acute. When a person needs to defend their home, they need to defend it now, not thirty to sixty days from now.”
She did not just pull those numbers out of the air. The process for getting government approval to purchase a firearm can reportedly take as much as two months, an unconscionable infringement on a fundamental right.
No other fundamental constitutional right faces such oppression
Dhillon added that requiring an upstanding citizen who has already passed a background check to endure such delays is “intolerable under the Constitution.”
Minnesota’s gun control regime forces citizens who do not intend to carry in public to wait 30 days for its permission. If that person is unfortunate enough to reside in one of the Twin Cities, weeks can be tacked onto an already indefensible delay.
This recent avalanche of DOJ filings against obvious Second Amendment violators would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. The much-maligned agency should be applauded for finally chipping away at state and local restrictions on an enumerated right.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
