A federal judge in Maryland rejected a request by gun rights supporters to grant an injunction against the state’s recently enacted law banning the sale of popular Glock handguns and similar models that feature a cruciform trigger.
In direct opposition to a Wednesday decision by a district judge in Connecticut, Richard D. Bennett determined that the statute is “consistent with restrictions on excessively dangerous weapons which have been regulated in response to their criminal misuse and lethality.”
In other words, third parties’ illegal acts may be used to prohibit a commonly held type of firearm.
Competing rules continue to swirl around Glock handguns
Bennett’s Connecticut counterpart readily saw the slippery slope that this legal logic creates. Glocks are not automatic weapons, and illegally modifying them should not justify a ban by anti-gun forces determined to find a path around the pesky Second Amendment.
She noted that it is simple enough to convert a long gun into an illegal short-barreled rifle (SBR) with a hacksaw. Does this mean that all rifles and shotguns should be prohibited?
Of course not, but that’s the same logic employed by gun rights opponents to explain the sudden actions of many against Glock products.
Judges considering virtually identical laws reach opposite conclusions
Bennett saw modern advancements in firearm technology, many of which make weapons safer, as transforming them into weapons that are “excessively dangerous.”
The Fourth Circuit already upheld Maryland’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” with this twisted reasoning. The appellate court concluded that semi-automatic firearms do not fall under the Second Amendment’s protection due to being used more for destruction than self-defense.
Of course, anti-gun radicals dismiss out of hand data citing some 2 million defensive gun uses annually–many by AR-15 owners.
No, they’d rather target inanimate objects and call themselves “tough on crime” than do the actual dirty work to keep predators out of our communities. In their unshakable worldview, banning self-defense tools is somehow more compassionate than locking up criminals.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
