There’s an old saying that references the “guts of a burglar.” It was undoubtedly meant to be at least a backhanded compliment as it is a risky thing to break into another person’s home with ill intent.

Perhaps the better description would be the “foolishness of a burglar.” After all, the rate of U.S. firearm ownership is soaring, and people increasingly conclude that it is preferable to be their own first responder when faced with a violent criminal.

Such was the case for a female homeowner in Hollywood Hills, California. An alleged intruder at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday was critically injured when the woman chose to defend herself from the imminent threat.

According to Fox 11, the homeowner spotted the alleged intruder in her backyard making his way to her door. He then tried to enter her residence.

She warned the alleged home invader to stop, but he apparently chose otherwise. That was a serious mistake.

The unidentified woman reported that he continually reached into his pocket, which of course made her think that he was drawing a weapon. Determined not to be a victim, she fired.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the man was conscious when law enforcement arrived and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Their preliminary investigation showed that the suspect, who was only described as being in his 30s, attempted to get into the home through the back door.

The homeowner escaped the frightening incident uninjured, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

Yet again, the presence of a firearm saved a prepared citizen from a potentially deadly confrontation. No better testimony for the Second Amendment exists than that of a person who walked away from an encounter that could easily have turned violent and life-threatening.
