Texas does not appear to be the smartest place to invade homes or attack others. Many of the incidents involving a good guy with a gun originate in the Lone Star State, and there is a fierce tradition of gun rights and a healthy respect for self-defense.

The latest instance of bad guys picking the wrong target unfolded in Houston on Sunday.

It was about 12:30 a.m. when three men exited a white SUV looking for prey. Their target was a man just arriving home and getting out of his car to go inside. Thankfully, there were others present at his residence.

One of those inside heard the commotion as the man tried to enter the home. The family member opened fire when he saw the other man being held at gunpoint.

Houston Police Department spokesperson John Cannon reported the man initially attacked in the driveway was also armed, and he was able to fire at the suspects as well.

Two of them were able to run back to their SUV and escape, while the third tried to get away on foot. A police dog located the third suspect a couple of houses away, and he definitely got the worst of the exchange of gunfire.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the legs and another to an arm. Once apprehended, he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and stabilized. The suspect is expected to survive.

At last reported his two accomplices had not been located.

It must have been a harrowing experience to have three men rush the intended victim as he attempted to enter his home. He was fortunate to have a family member realize the situation and be armed, and then he was able to produce his own weapon and return fire.

Anti-gunners like to say there are too many weapons, and certainly it is not a good thing for bad guys to be armed. But so were the good guys in Texas early Sunday morning, and it was fortunate they were ready for a shocking turn of events.
