This installment of good guys with guns features an elderly Idaho woman who found herself in the terrifying situation of facing a home invasion in the middle of the day.

According to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was able to defend herself with a firearm and in the process killed the alleged intruder.

The sheriff’s office and the Bingham County Blackfoot Joint Detective Division responded to the call of a criminal act in progress at approximately 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.

They arrived in the aftermath of the deadly encounter. According to reports, the homeowner shockingly confronted an adult male who had entered her residence. She alertly managed to produce a weapon to defend herself and fired at least one shot.

The alleged home intruder died at the scene.

Unfortunately, the elderly woman also suffered injuries in the attack, indicating a possible struggle. She was immediately taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

At last report officials said she is expected to survive her harrowing ordeal.

The surrounding area was roped off as investigators canvassed the scene. Residents were asked to steer clear to not impede the probe into the apparent home invasion and subsequent shooting.

The sheriff’s department told the community that the apparent home invasion appeared to be an isolated incident and that there was not an ongoing threat. In a press release, officials reported the woman “was harmed but protected herself.”

The coroner’s office identified the suspect who passed away as 39-year-old Derek Ephriam Condon. The elderly woman who courageously defended herself remains unidentified.

Without a weapon readily available, the outcome of this tragic encounter could have been far worse. Yet again, the power of the Second Amendment to protect law-abiding citizens from violent criminals is clearly demonstrated.
