An armed good guy in Florida rushed to support a law enforcement officer under attack by a suspect who fired multiple rounds, according to a police report.

The suspect, 29-year-old Morgan Miguel Garcia of Zolfo Springs, is now charged with several counts including assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer and aggravated stalking. He is being held by the Hardee County Sheriff’s Department.

The Tuesday night shootout thankfully did not result in injuries.

According to officials, a call came in concerning a restraining order violation at around 9:40 p.m. A deputy responded to a Zolfo Springs residence and found Garcia allegedly armed with an AR-15 in the backyard of the residence.

Deputies reported the suspect was involved in an incident earlier in the day and his presence was in violation of a no-contact order. This, of course, led to much more trouble.

Instead of dropping his weapon when commanded to do so, Garcia reportedly fired on the deputy, who returned fire.

The homeowner, fearing for multiple lives and looking to protect his family, retrieved a 9mm handgun and fired at the suspect. Garcia allegedly attempted to shoot his way into the residence through the door into where the family was hiding.

He fled after breaking a window in his unsuccessful attempt to enter the home. Garcia was able to evade capture overnight, but law enforcement received a tip the following day that led to his capture.

Officials with Hardee County, which is located roughly 70 miles southeast of Tampa, lauded the joint effort by the deputy and homeowner to protect the family from immediate danger.

Thankfully there were no injuries, but the violent incident could have ended much worse. The no-contact order proved futile, and only the armed resistance of the responding deputy and homeowner likely saved the family.
