The federal government is neck-deep in the information business, and business is booming. That’s the warning from Gun Owners of America (GOA) concerning the troubling acquisition of data troves by Washington officials.
GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt declared that this practice is an ominous threat to gun owners’ privacy. The old days of needing to go door-to-door to conduct surveillance are over.
What the federal government cannot simply take, it buys
“They don’t need to kick down your door anymore. They just pull out a credit card,” Pratt warned in a GOA national alert. “Right now, the federal government is purchasing massive commercial databases packed with personal information: your location history, your browsing habits, your interests and hobbies.”
Pratt noted that the Fourth Amendment prohibits the government from simply taking the personal information it seeks.
There is, however, nothing to stop federal officials from purchasing mountains of data collected by private companies—no court order necessary.
Congress is mulling extending federal surveillance capabilities
This practice is “legal” only due to a gaping loophole in the law. Authorities are busy building personal profiles of millions of Americans, including gun owners, “without a warrant, without probable cause, and without ever going before a judge.”
Congress is currently considering extending FISA Section 702, which permits officials to conduct mass data collection under the umbrella of national security.
Pratt warned that Section 702 “was sold to the American people as a tool for surveilling foreign terrorists.” And while this is true, if the foreign target communicates with an American citizen, the American’s personal information may be swept right up with the terror suspect’s.
What the government already has, GOA noted, is “an AI-powered gun registry” that may be wielded at any time against law-abiding individuals. And that is illegal and must be dismantled.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
