It is never a great idea to break into another person’s home, but in 2024 that action is even more of a risky proposition. Recent FBI data revealed more Americans than ever are armed, and it’s not due to a nationwide surge in hunting clubs.

Rather, the good people want to protect themselves from those who would cause them harm.

A prime example unfolded in New Jersey Sunday night just before 10:30 p.m. when a homeowner received quite a shock. A person carrying a hammer managed to smash their way into the Trenton residence, obviously with bad intent.

The alleged intruder was later identified as 34-year-old Andray Ingram.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday that the resident retrieved his firearm when he saw a man with a hammer smashing his Ring camera. The suspect further struck the front door with the blunt object to get inside.

According to investigators, Ingram was able to gain entry to the home with the hammer and reached the vestibule. But no further.

That’s because the homeowner was armed and ready, and at least one shot was fired at the alleged intruder.

The Patch reported, “Trenton detectives in the area on an unrelated assignment found the victim on the ground on St. Francis Avenue.” He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.

As would be expected in such an apparently clear case of self-defense, the homeowner has not been charged. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that the investigation into the violent encounter continues.

What is clear is that it is a horribly bad idea to break into another person’s home. The fundamental right to defend oneself and loved ones is hallowed virtually everywhere, and more Americans than ever are armed to do exactly that.
