Oregon Lawmaker Blasts Initiative That Would Effectively Ban Hunting

The Second Amendment community is a big tent, and any law-abiding American who supports constitutional rights is welcome.

That’s regardless of political affiliation as well, and honest observers note that many who, at first glance, would not be expected to fall in line with the right to keep and bear arms, show they respect the law and common sense.

Oregon radicals recently and unofficially crossed the threshold for signatures needed to put the People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act on the ballot. U.S. Rep. Val Hoyle (D) blasted the effort as extremely misguided, and she’s far from a gun rights supporter.

Even those who generally oppose gun rights recognize this foolishness

“It would make it illegal to kill any animal except in self-defense,” Hoyle said. “Any animal–which kills our commercial fishing industry. It, no lie, makes it a felony sex crime to inseminate a cow artificially. That’s insane. There’s no other word for it. But the signature gatherers are asking people, ‘Do you want to help save animals?’ And people are signing this.”

The representative noted that good people will side with protecting animals if that’s the extent of the question. The devil is in the details.

Oregon’s sporting community should rise and squash this lunacy

Hoyle added that there is no “food fairy” who uses magic to make meat and fish suddenly appear in a blinding flash of light on grocery shelves.

The ballot initiative would criminalize hunting, fishing, trapping, and animal breeding. Even in a state dominated by urban anti-gunners who are usually successful at imposing their will on the rest of Oregon, the PEACE Act does not pass the smell test.

Current Beaver State law protects domestic animals, usually dogs and cats, from abuse. This is one of the sane laws on the books, but animal rights activists seek to expand it to include every living creature.

The Oregon Hunters Association noted that roughly one million residents who hunt, fish, or even work in agriculture would be affected by this travesty.

The group added that passing such an act would also defund the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The law of unintended consequences is on full display in the Pacific Northwest.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
