It is difficult to conceive of a candidate running for statewide office in Texas and holding beliefs opposed to those who treasure the Second Amendment’s protections. First, however, Senate candidate James Talarico (D) gave perfunctory support to gun rights.
He had to do that in the Lone Star State, and he gave it a try. However, the people will not be fooled for long, if at all.
“I am a believer in the Second Amendment,” he claimed on a podcast. “I don’t pick and choose between the Bill of Rights; I believe in the Second Amendment just as much as I believe in the First.”
It will be difficult to convince voters that he is not a gun grabber
Maybe if he stopped there, his words might carry a bit of weight. But he didn’t. Instead, he declared that the right to keep and bear arms is “not absolute,” which of course is true of every constitutional freedom, but his ilk wants to strip gun rights right out of existence.
And, unfortunately but predictably, he expressed his undying loyalty to those who would prohibit private sales of firearms between law-abiding individuals. “We’ve got to make sure that we’ve got safe storage laws and background checks so that we’re keeping everybody safe.”
To be clear, he wants to tell Texans how they will keep their first line of defense from being practical to use. Too many anti-gunners want weapons and ammunition stored and locked separately, rendering them virtually useless in a dire emergency.
Candidate holds private gun rights in very low regard
Then there’s “universal background checks.”
Breitbart News reported that Talarico’s campaign website emphasized that government intrusion on private firearm sales is among the candidate’s “priorities.” He also pushed for raising the minimum purchase age for modern sporting rifles, a move that will appeal to his base—but not most Texans.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
