A Pennsylvania woman survived a frightening encounter with a stranger in her home due to exercising her Second Amendment rights and by being prepared. She also displayed courage in confronting the intruder when awakened in the middle of the night.

Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible provided the narrative of the woman’s shocking encounter with the stranger.

She was awakened by noises coming from within her house, and she wisely armed herself with a 9mm handgun and went to find the source. What she discovered was the stuff of nightmares.

She found a man standing at her basement door after getting into the home through a broken window.

Bible explained, “The door to her basement opened and there stands this guy who she had no idea who he was, and she ended up shooting him three times and killing him.”

The identity of the now-deceased intruder has not been released.

The woman and other Pennsylvania residents are blessed to be protected by the “castle doctrine.” This permits the use of deadly force if the person deems it necessary to stop an intrusion and possible harm to themselves or others.

Bible explained, “If someone enters your house, they are making that conscious decision. They are there to steal from you or hurt you in other ways. You have the right to protect yourself and use deadly force.”

With this in mind, the district attorney told Pittsburgh’s KDKA News that the homeowner will almost certainly not encounter criminal charges.

After all, her case is a textbook example of why the castle doctrine exists, and indeed, why there is a Second Amendment in place. The right of a person to defend themselves and their loved ones is as old as humanity, and by all accounts the Beaver Falls case is a clear example of exercising that right.
