Road rage is all too common in the modern world, but it is generally confined to language the kids shouldn’t hear or to middle fingers. However, when it escalates, it can be deadly serious.

The Charleston (S.C.) Police Department (CPD) released details of a recent such confrontation that took a tragic turn. The violent encounter erupted at around 10:45 p.m., and CPD officials reported that 63-year-old William Ray Hinerman of Charleston was the aggressor.

Being the peacemaker did not work for South Carolina driver

The target of his alleged rage pulled over to the side of the road to let the suspect move on and avoid trouble. Investigators say the commendable plan failed when Hinerman made a U-turn and returned to escalate the conflict.

Investigators believe the suspect got out of his vehicle, approached the other motorist, and struck the driver multiple times. The victim of the alleged assault was far from helpless, and the opportunity to avoid the frightening situation left the second driver with no choice.

The injured party produced a gun and fired one shot, striking Hinerman in the abdomen.

Unfortunately, there’s always the risk of an anti-gun rights prosecutor

The person who defended themselves immediately called 911, stayed at the scene until officers arrived, and then cooperated with authorities as they worked to piece together how the confrontation unfolded.

Emergency personnel transported Hinerman to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

There is no word yet on potential charges for the driver who survived. Once all the facts are gathered, prosecutors will determine whether any legal action against the person who apparently defended themselves is warranted.

On the surface, the frightening incident is a textbook example of how to react to an aggressive driver. Always attempt to avoid direct conflict, and normally sensible people who are just caught up in the moment should realize that they are in the wrong and move on.

But sometimes they don’t.

That’s when the presence of a lawful firearm comes into play. In most states, an individual does not have to submit to physical violence and may exercise their Second Amendment right to armed self-defense.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
