There are some areas where it is advisable not to attempt to invade a home, and one of them may well be Casper, Wyoming.

Details are just now being made public of a violent encounter that occurred last month. Police were called to a residence just before 11 a.m. only to find when they arrived that the suspected home invaders had fled. Their investigation revealed a frightening scenario.

The daughter woke her father up that morning telling him that someone was knocking on the front door. As he started to go check it out, he too heard a loud banging sound.

But waiting for him when he opened his bedroom door were two strangers lurking in the hallway, and one of them immediately attacked the homeowner.

As he fought to protect his family, his wife hardly went into shock and helplessly stood there. Instead, the visibly pregnant woman retrieved a pistol and threatened the two home invaders. That was enough of a warning for them.

Both fled the premises and were nowhere to be found when law enforcement showed up.

The father suffered cuts and scratches from the fracas with the home invaders, and investigators were able to gather DNA evidence from his body. Surveillance footage led to the arrest of 35-year-old Daniel Charles Hemmer and 40-year-old Joel Wilson.

Officials were already aware of the pair who had apparently run afoul of the law before. Both face many years behind bars if convicted of the burglary and drug charges they now face.

Hemmer told officers that Wilson invited him to rob a “drug house.” Something went awry, however, and the regular family home became the target instead.

This potentially deadly situation is yet another defensive gun case in which the weapon did not have to be fired to have its intended effect. With a pregnant mother and a minor child in the residence, the outcome could have been far worse if the family did not exercise their right to keep and bear arms.
