Convenience stores, unfortunately, are convenient targets for violent criminals. Employment in these locations comes with an elevated risk level, particularly in crime-ridden cities such as St. Louis, and being prepared is critical.
A suspect learned this lesson the hard way midmorning Thursday when he allegedly chose McNeal’s Superette as his personal piggy bank. His decision nearly cost him his life.
Suspect miscalculated risk involved in targeting local store
The unidentified man reportedly announced his presence and intentions upon entering the shop at about 10 a.m. The St. Louis Police Department (SLPD) told reporters that they received an emergency call that the suspect immediately caused a scene and attempted to access the secured employee area behind the counter.
But instead of being yet another defenseless victim of an apparently random attack, the female clerk was armed.
When police arrived, they found the suspect suffering from a bullet wound delivered by the employee. She told investigators that she feared for her life and therefore resorted to potentially deadly force to defend herself.

Apparently still not convinced of the error of his ways, the suspect reportedly fought the responding officers before being subdued and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
He obviously presented a clear and present danger, the kind that the Second Amendment is invaluable for ending in their tracks. Without the ready firearm, the woman would likely not have emerged from the violent encounter in one piece.
Instead, she can continue to serve her community through the business after sending a strong message to anyone thinking of targeting the store and its employees.
Do so at your own risk. And be aware that McNeal’s Superette is not operated by shrinking violets, but by good citizens who are ready to defend life and property with lethal force if necessary.
