Venerable gunmaker Glock is increasingly in the crosshairs of lawmakers upset over some using a secondary device to enable its pistols to fire at a faster rate.

The company already faces a lawsuit from the City of Chicago over the so-called “Glock switches.” Now 13 state attorneys general sent a letter this week to the manufacturer in what can only be seen as a threat to take their own legal action.

The officials hail from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and Washington D.C.

The Chicago suit claimed that through the use of “auto sears,” which can be purchased for $20 online, the semi-automatic handguns may be converted to fully automatic. Many of these accessories originate in China.

These are illegal for most U.S. gun owners.

The AG’s insisted that Glock maintain all materials concerning, “The conversion of Glock semi-automatic handguns into automatic weapons,”  “The design and development of Glock pistols with respect to their semi-automatic function,” “[Glock’s] knowledge of about all state and federal laws relating to Glock switches and converted Glock machine guns,” “Financial information related to Glock pistols, including profit,” and “Any public-facing marketing or advertising related to Glock pistols.”

According to the Chicago lawsuit, the company is blamed for criminals misusing its products. It said these same criminals “kill and injure more people, increasing the terror faced by ordinary Chicagoans.”

The suit further claims that the modified pistols possess “military-grade firepower” and may fire “as many as 1,200 rounds per minute on the streets of the city.”

Georgia-based Glock is the target of yet another action from anti-gun forces who ignore the actual criminals committing heinous acts. From the appearance of this week’s letter, the company may be forced to defend itself against more legal actions.
