Indiana Puts the Brakes on Local Firearm Restrictions

Indiana officials have had enough of belligerent local governments telling upstanding residents that the Second Amendment does not protect them.

Last week, a ceremonial signing of SEA 176 was held to recognize the state’s defense of the firearms industry and gun ranges. No longer will localities be able to wield zoning laws as weapons to drive sport shooting underground.

And there will be no more local statutes that clearly run afoul of the Second Amendment and state protections of gun rights.

NSSF thanked Indiana lawmakers for upholding fundamental gun rights

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the industry trade association, applauded Gov. Mike Braun (R) for demonstrating his commitment to Second Amendment principles.

“The passage of Senate Enrolled Act 176 into law is a vital step to ensuring that law-abiding gun owners have access to safe and state-of-the-art shooting ranges and firearm retail locations,” explained NSSF Director of Government Relations—State Affairs. “This law will safeguard ranges and retailers from anti-gun agenda-driven weaponization of local zoning authorities.”

Anti-gunners lose ability to attack 2A rights on the local level

Critics continue to cling to the belief that disarming law-abiding citizens is the magic wand to eradicate violent crime. And of course, they blame the grassroots organizations committed to defending Second Amendment rights.

The folks at supportdemocracy.org are aghast that states stand up to grandstanding local politicians.

“Thanks to an aggressive lobbying effort by the National Rifle Association, more than 40 states have passed sweeping firearm preemption laws that prevent local governments from adopting reasonable gun safety policies,” the anti-gun outfit claimed.

Reasonable? Severe restrictions imposed on any other enumerated constitutional right would hardly be categorized as “reasonable.”

No, the proper thing to do is exactly what Indiana state officials just accomplished. Strengthen existing preemption and prohibit the use of local zoning laws for political gerrymandering.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
