Minnesota citizens are certainly accustomed to turmoil and controversy, and now some lawmakers are shoving through a controversial bill to decimate gun rights that has a chance to succeed.
Members of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) are well-versed in attempts to usurp the Second Amendment. Several tries at codifying the anti-gunners’ agenda fell short, but now they believe they have a bill that could become law.
Anti-2A legislators see a path to victory for more gun control
The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) recently warned that SF 4067, or the Omnibus Firearms Bill, gained traction and is headed for a Senate vote.
What would it mean for law-abiding gun owners? NAGR noted it would “ban the majority of semi-automatic rifles, ban magazines over 17 rounds, radically expand ‘red flag’ gun confiscation, ban privately manufactured firearms, ban binary triggers, and fund anti-gun research.”
2A group cautions that resistance is critical to defeating SF 4067
There are still some Second Amendment supporters who believe this latest attempt to massively deemphasize gun rights will wither on the vine. It has happened before, and there are interesting numbers on how legislators are expected to vote.
The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus posted on X that it is considered likely that SF 4067 will clear its Senate hurdle. “The House is tied,” the group predicted. “It’ll go there after the Senate passes. We believe it will die there, BUT we cannot lose a single vote.”
Firearm advocates are well versed in how anticipated “ties” can turn out to be yet another rejection of 2A freedoms. Ask North Carolina gun owners who are still waiting for constitutional carry.
If personal liberty advocates want to make a change, they should support the fight against yet more firearm restrictions. Contacting lawmakers and telling them that these infringements are unconstitutional and will not stand is the only way, short of a ballot-box revolution.
