Categorizing Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-TX) proposed Stopping Harmful and Outrageous Torts (SHOT) Act as “deeply flawed,” the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) instead offered its own solution to strengthen protections for the firearms industry from vindictive and unjustifiable lawfare.
The FPC further charged that proponents are selling the SHOT Act as a critical Second Amendment protection bill but that it in fact “does not get that job done.”
It is clear to the shooting community that something must be done
The gun rights group proposed an amendment to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) with what it believes has more meat on the bone.
In a statement, the FPC declared that its proposal “advances the real mission: protecting the People’s rights and ensuring that frivolous litigation cannot be weaponized by anti-rights governments, activists, and special interests to financially and legally redline the Second Amendment out of existence.”
The organization said its proposal contains “strong language that actually does the job.”
Without reform, 2A industries risk being driven into the ground
Congress approved, and President George W. Bush (R) signed the PLCAA into law over two decades ago to protect Second Amendment-related businesses from exactly the type of lawfare that city and state governments now hurl at the right to keep and bear arms.
There is agreement across the gun rights community that something must be done to shield the firearms industry from lawmakers with deep troughs of taxpayer dollars to sue companies right out of existence. It is only the degree that is in question.
Without the ability to purchase and update constitutionally protected firearms, ammunition, and weapons accessories, gun rights are virtually meaningless.
And city and state governments know this.
Still, they pander to their anti-gun bases by attempting to blame upstanding businesses for third-party acts. State and local leaders rail against self-defense weapons while enabling a judicial system that lets violent offenders right back out on the streets.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
